Priceless- a song interpretation.

The song I chose is “Priceless” By for King + Country. For King + Country is a Christian pop-rock band made up of two brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, they have also included their wives in some of their tracks as well. Their song “Priceless” was written to convey the preciousness and purity with which God sees each of us. It is also a theme track to the movie Priceless that Joel Smallbone stars in. I love For King + Country and their music because they convey many messages about God and use music to lift our spirit and inspire us.

I remember hearing “Priceless” for the first time and I began to sob from the very beginning because the message behind it hit hard with what I was currently going through in life. Hearing the lyrics at the beginning

Mirror, mirror

Mirror on the wall

Telling those lies, pointing out your flaws, that isn't who you are

That isn't who you are

It might be hard to hear, but let me tell you dear

If you could see what I can see

I know you would believe that isn't who you are

There's more to who you are”

I have always had issues with looking at myself in the mirror and have delt a lot with body dysmorphia issues. I always felt like I wasn’t good enough. Then hearing this it was exactly what I needed to hear. Almost like God was speaking to me through this song. The song talks about how when you look in the mirror and see your flaws just know that that is not who you are or at least you don’t have to be only your flaws. Your “flaws” are what make you unique and beautiful. You are how God made you to be. In Psalms 139:14-16 it says “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well. This is a message about how God made us in his image, and we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”. The song also mentions that we are “worth more than all the money or the diamonds and pearls” and that we are “Irreplaceable, unmistakable, incomparable Darling, it’s beautiful I see it all in you (oh so priceless)” I love how it helped me realize my value and that I am priceless because there is nobody else exactly like me. We all have our “flaws” and what makes us unique, and we need to love ourselves because He made us who we are.
